Playing a lot of cover songs lately. I haven't posted any new music of my own even though I've been working on it a lot. Here's something I've written lately.
I'm on a journey to discover something . . . something profound, something revolutionary. A diamond in the rough, something to bring up in casual conversation so other people think you're cool

The Mental Battle
Everyone experiences the mental battle. The question of whether what you're doing is worth it. The question of whether you are on the right path or not. Experiencing mental chatter and self-doubt can be difficult. The real question is how you handle yourself when you do experience mental battles. It's easy to fall into a victim mentality of not being dealt the right hand. It's not about the hand you're dealt, it's about how well you play the hand. Everyone is dealt something. You can look at the world as if the cards are stacked against you or look at as if the cards are stacked in your favor. I like to be the person that looks at the deck stacked in my favor.
A couple tips for you when you experience a mental battle. . .
Recognize your negative self-talk.
We all have that voice in our head. The one that tells us that whatever we want to do will not work out. Acknowledge that voice but don't listen to it. It's ok to have a thought of self-doubt but don't feed it. Write your thoughts in a journal or voice them out loud in a different tone.
Don't get caught in a negative cycle.
Too often people repeat the same thoughts over and over and over again. They have the same thoughts that they had yesterday. They replay bad memories or how something didn't go their way. So therefore that means everything else in the future won't work out in their favor. This is not true. Start to have positive thoughts about the future. Create a vision for yourself where you are up every night hustling to make your dreams a reality.
Don't get discouraged.
Understand that your time will come. Be patient. Be optimistic. Keep moving towards your goals even if it seems like you're not going anywhere. As you climb towards your goals you will hit a plateau and beyond that plateau is a breakthrough. Many people give up too soon because they don't see progress. Focus on making little improvements each day. Focus on improving at whatever you do. Focus on asking better questions of yourself.
What are some mental battles you've overcome? Are you currently experiencing a mental battle you'd like to share. I'd love to hear what you do to overcome your mental battles.
Thanks for reading,
Josh
